Mexico Travel Tips
- A passport is required for entry into Mexico. Passports must not expire within 6 months of travel.
- The currency in Mexico is the Peso but the dollar is widely accepted.
- Spanish is the main language in Mexico but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas.
- It is customary to leave a tip to thank waiters, valets, gas station employees, bellboys and other service providers. At restaurants, bars and coffee shops, it is customary to leave 10% of the total amount of the bill; if the service was very good, you may wish to leave up to 15%. Some restaurants and bars include the tip in the final bill, so be sure to check this in order not to overpay. At all-inclusive resorts the tips are included but it is nice to tip if you recieve excellent service.
- Bottle water and purfied water will be provided by the resort. Use this to brush your teeth.
- Mexican law requires that if only one parent (or grandparent, or other guardian) isaccompanying a minor under 18 into Mexico, they must bear a notarized letter fromthe child's other parent (or guardian) granting permission to enter Mexico with thechild, including the dates of travel, the accompanying adult's name, contactinformation, and a notarized signature.
- Check with your cell phone service provider to make sure you have an international plan, or can add a temporary plan for Mexico (just remember to remove it when you get back.) Also, if you have a data plan on your phone – make sure you turn the cellular portion off, or it will rack up huge bills.
